Sound = Sleep
As you age sleep, or the lack of, can be a real issue. I have tried prescribed medication that failed miserably so I have again relied on holistic measures that do help. I am not saying don’t seek professional help but I am saying there are natural ways of dealing with most problems.
A simple way to both get to sleep and stay asleep is what I call sound therapy. My husband like a lot of other people sleeps with the TV on. That does not work for me. I have to have complete quiet…or at least I thought I did and then I was introduced to “noise”, not just any noise but “white noise”. Shaking your head are you? White noise is a series of audible sounds combined to relax the brain.
Remember back when your parents or grandparents owned black and white tvs. If the TV channel went “off the air” you would get this somewhat irritating crackle notice or static = white noise. Who knew that noise could actually aid in sleep.
If you have a music streaming service you have access to natural sleep. Most offer both individual selections or continuous channels. You can also choose between white, brown or green noise. The most widely used is white. The sounds range from a general static to chirping birds or waterfalls.
In addition to noise therapy I highly recommend a jell eye mask. Keep it refrigerated if you want it cool for use. The purpose of the mask is to block out those pesky little “power on” lights found on your TV and some lights.
Do your own research on the different types of noise. God bless you and have a restful night.
