Motivation

You never know what will motivate you, a kind word, the perfect song, or inspiration from a stranger.

I haven’t written much in months and have wanted to write a novel but just couldn’t seem to find the words. A simple act from a stranger changed everything.

On Saturday, while riding through a nearby town, we stopped at three yard sales that were next to each other. We didn’t purchase anything at the first one. At the second, the middle-aged black lady handed me a black covered book with blank pages and asked if I could use it and said it was only fifty cents. I paused for a moment, looking at it, and handed her a dollar bill. At the third, I purchased a few more items, and my husband did as well.

I had not thought any more about the little black book until I started to bed and picked it up and took it with me. The first page had been torn out, so on the next page, I drew a mountain scene and used colored pencils to finish it.

Staring at the picture, I knew it was going to lead to a story somehow. Under the picture, I wrote a title. Amazingly, it didn’t stop there. On the thick, rough pages, I started writing words, not really knowing where they were coming from. It was flowing so easy now. When I laid my pencil down a few hours later, I decided to go ahead and enter what I had written into my laptop. After entering the text, I checked my word count, and it was over 2000. While that may be an easy task for some, it was not typically for me.

Call it coincidence if you want to, but had the lady not handed me that little black book, we would not even be talking about this.

Random acts don’t just happen. Be the lady in this story. Touch someone’s life in a positive way. A simple smile, a small gesture can make  positive energy flow.

Have a blessed day!

I love art, especially photography and painting. My next addition is crafts or primarily needlecrafts. And as if that was not enough, I am a genealogist.
