Through My Eyes

Yes, you heard me right. I listen to music while I paint. I tend to listen to all kinds of music, but today, it’s the track to one of my favorite movies, “The Last Of The Mohicans.” The track varies from very dramatic to softly audible. It helps to calm me and yet move me in the right direction when working on a complicated piece.

The music doesn’t have to be geared to one genre, but whatever moves you. With headphones on, the frequencies of each tone are both calming and directional. Listen for a few measures before you start. I know fellow artists that listen to everything from r&b to techno. You just have to see which genre works for you. Don’t be surprised if it’s something outside of your comfort zone, like the theme from Transformers I just finished with.

As artists, we are used to “thinking out of the box,” so the possibilities are endless. Today, I started a new painting (don’t judge), which will be a tall ship.

Art is whatever makes you feel good.

Have a great day, and remember, “Jesus loves you.”
