The Miracles Of Christmas

Most people have read the account of Matthew and Luke from the Bible of the birth of Jesus. That  virgin birth was a miracle in itself. But according to Thomas’s gospel of Infancy his miracles began prior to birth.

Remember when Mary traveled to see Elizabeth and the baby John acknowledged the presence of Jesus by leaping in the womb.

The gospel of Thomas defines a broader picture of the birth and childhood of Christ. While the star and the angels were miracles there were more that did not appear in the Bible. There was an account of a midwife with a mangled hand that was healed while assisting with the delivery of Jesus.

I don’t believe his miracles were limited to his adulthood. If he was just a baby why were so many drawn to him? He was such a strong presence even as a baby that kings fell on their knees. While a lot of people discount the value of these text, they do exits. What we have to remember is Jesus was the son of God not the son of an ordinary man.

We know that a lot of texts were removed from what should have been in the Bible. That being said it stands to reason that Jesus’s childhood would have been documented somewhere so why not the Gospel of Thomas.

For more information on the Gospel of Thomas and the books of Infancy and other gospels they are available at your local bookstore.

Take the time to read the accounts of that special day and include it in your Christmas celebration.

Crafting One-Of-A-Kind Rugs

In a time of uncertain supply it is important to make the most of what you have. With Christmas coming up I have been contemplating new projects. By a stroke of luck I found a rug canvas at a local auction along with a bag of scraps. Here is what I am working on.

Ragpoint

As you can see this canvas had a design printed on it. You could easily design your own using a fabric marker. Here is what you will need:

Fabric scraps ripped into 1 inch width.
A good pair of scissors, crochet hook to tuck in ends and a pack of needlepoint or yarn needles
And of course your rug canvas you can purchase from Michael’s or any craft store. This is pretty inexpensive depending on the size you purchase.

You thread your needle with your fabric and work this project using a basic needlepoint stitch (You can find videos on YouTube).

While this is not a project you will finish overnight it does work up pretty quickly. After you finish your design, select enough fabric of a neutral color to work the rest of the canvas.

Have fun crafting…

Build A Blanket

Knit and crochet blanket.

I always have to have something in my hands. I started this last night. It is a good way to incorporate a multitude of different stitches. In the center is a 7″ granny square. At the top on the needle is afghan stitch. On the left and knitted is garter stitch. On the bottom and knitted is moss stitch. On the right and knitted is basket weave.

I started with granny square and then knitted the garter stitch and attached to the granny square. I then picked up stitches across both to do the moss stitch then worked around and picked up stitches on the right side to do the basket weave and finally the afghan stitch in like manner.

You can use any combination of stitches as long as your crochet and knitting needles are compatible and produce similar sized stitches.

When you get your desired width then just add strips on top and bottom to get desired length.

Happy stitching!

Strips are 4″ wide.
