Guess you are wondering what these two have in common! Throughout the Bible, prayer is discussed, and we are taught how to pray.
Women used to wear their hair long and men wore their’s cut short. Somewhere along the way that standard got reversed. Here is what the Bible says about that: 1 Corinthians 13 – 15 13 Consider for yourselves; is it proper and decent for a woman to offer prayer to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the native sense of propriety itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is a dishonor to him. 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is her ornament and glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
I just happen to have long hair and have worn it most of my life that way. Having read this, I do have a greater appreciation for that gift and is an added reason to let my hair grow.
This world needs a lot of prayer. In your prayers, remember those who have lost so much in Western North Carolina, Texas, and New Mexico.
There are two things I keep within reach of my bed, a needle for cross stitch and a Bible. Why you ask, because on sleepless nights, they both come in handy. I sometimes wake up feeling nervous and reach for my needlework. The rhythm of making the stitches is calming, and I soon relax enough to fall back to sleep. The Bible I keep on my night stand for those nights when either I have had a stressful day or when I wake up and need the comfort of my Lord.
In the Bible in the book of Matthew Jesus references a needle when he says in verse 24 “And again I say to unto you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God”. Some people have said that the needle eye referred to was a gate that camels passed through; however, I believe that it should be taken more literally.
If you look around in the chaos world we are living in, it is primarily driven by money. Most crimes are tied to money. Our society is categorized by our wealth or the lack of. The biblical reference is not something to be ignored. If a rich man places money before God, his chances are slim of ever seeing the kingdom of God. You need to serve only one master, God.
Yes, unfortunately, we need money to survive, but it is the lust of money that will lead people down the wrong path. We are at a crossroads. There is a right way and a wrong way. Which path have you chosen?
In this spiritual war, we have to be conscious of where our decisions will lead us. Have a wonderful day.
I love to bake bread. While this bread was very tasty it is not the bread I am talking about. While we know it takes a lot of care and ingredients to make the perfect loaf of bread there is only one ingredient for our daily bread:
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John:6:35
We concentrate so much on what is going on in the world that we tend to overlook the obvious. If you are not starting and ending your day with Jesus, you have not received your daily bread. You have missed the opportunity to enrich your life.
Not to worry this is not going to interrupted your coffee time, your gaming time, your work time. Dedicate ten minutes at night and in the morning for prayer and scripture. It is a small amount of time that will change how you think, recharge your health and satisfy your quest for knowledge.
While the Bible can be difficult to read it is worth the challenge. I really don’t like to read so it took me a year to read it from cover to cover. It was an immediate sense of fulfillment when I finished the last paragraph.
I am now going back through the Bible and am doing more research into what is hidden in its pages. Who knew that the earth was full of angels and that some of those angels married humans. To find out what happens to them you have to read Genesis.
What your dose of daily bread….begin now to explore the Bible.
There seems to be a lot of discussion recently about aliens and I have seen a number of people who have stated that aliens were even noted in the Bible. Here are the Bible references as they currently exist as quoted from the Amplified Bible.
Exod 18:3 And her two sons, of whom the name of the one was Gershom [expulsion, or a stranger there], for Moses said, I have been an alien in a strange land;
Deuteronomy 14:21 You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the stranger or the foreigner who is within your towns that he may eat it, or you may sell it to an alien. [They are not under God’s law in this matter} but you are a people holy to the Lord your God. You shall not [even] boil a kid in its mother’s milk.
Job 19:15 Those who live temporarily in my house and my maids count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight.
Psalm 69:8 I have become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien to my mother’s children. [John 7:3-5.]
Proverbs 2:16 [Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you] to deliver you from the alien woman, from the outsider with her flattering words, [Prov. 2:11]
Isaiah 61:5 Aliens shall stand [ready] and feed your flocks, and foreigners shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
Luke 17:18 Was there no one found to return and to reognize and give thanks and praise to God except this alien?
Ephesians 2:19 Therefore you are no longer outsiders, exiles, migrants, and aliens, excluded from the rights of citizens), but you now share citizenship with the saints (God’s own people, consecrated and set apart for Himself): and you belong to God’s [own} household.
Ephesians 4:18 Their moral understanding is darkened and their reasoning is beclouded. [They are] alienated (estranged, self-banished) from the life of God [with no share in it; this is] because of the ignorance (the want of knowledge and perception, the willful blindness) that is deep-seated in them, due to their hardness of heart [to the insensitiveness of their moral nature].
Hebrews 11:34 Extinguished the power of raging fire, esaped the devourings of the sword, out of frailty and weakness won strength and became stalwart, even mighty and resistless in battle, routing alien hosts. [Dan. 3.]
Hebrews 13:9 Do not be carried about by different and varied and alien teachings; for it is good for the heart to be established and ennobled and strengthened by means of grace (God’s favor and spiritual blessing) and not [to be devoted to] foods [rules of diet and ritualistic meals], which bring no [spiritual] benefit or profit to those who observe them.
1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I implore you as aliens and stranger and exiles [in this world] to abstain from the sensual urges (the evil desires, the passions of the flesh, your lower nature) that wage war against the soul.
1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not be amzed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you.
In each instance if you read the passage and the surrounding passages you will come to realize the term “alien” does not relate to a creature but to something strange or unfamiliar or a foreign location. It is easy to get terminology confused in the Bible as a lot of it is written in parables but in this instance each use of the term is the same or similar.
While there are obviously books that have been left out of the Bible, based on how the term is used in these passages I don’t think the inclusion of any other books will change the meaning. Feel free to do your own research. The internet while a useful tool can also contain a lot of false or misleading information.
I have always been drawn to mountains. This comes from partially because even the Bible speaks a lot about mountains. As early at Genesis mountains are mentioned in Genesis 8 :4 “On the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat”. In Isaiah 2:2 “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills, and all shall flow to it”. For more biblical references here is a good site to go to: https://www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/bible-verses-about-mountains.
There is a spiritual connection with the huge peaks. Certainly when I stand on a mountain I feel closer to God. It is not just the height but more a presence. I have painted a lot of mountains. Here is this week’s mountain ridge.
The mountains tremble and quake before Him and the hills melt away and the earth is upheaved at His presence–yes, the world and all that dwell in it Nahum 1:5.
As children of God we can be mountains, firm and strong. We can stand and endure all things because our feet are firmly planted in the word. There is no need to worry about falling because our roots are embedded in the rock of salvation, Jesus Christ. In a time when “all things” are in question, God is the only thing that is certain.
Be a voice that can be heard in the wilderness. Be a cry that echos from the mountain top. Stand tall and unafraid because there is nothing here on earth that is too big for God. The Bible tells us multiple times to not have fear. If you live with fear you have already given up. Be like the pine tree that grows tall and wide. Let your words lead others to righteousness.
In fragile condiiton, it still holds the key to the world.
While at one time the cover on this book was very detailed, but now as all things age it is slowly turning to dust! You note there is no title on the cover. Do you know what it is? I purchased this book at an auction probably 25 years ago. It was in fragile condition even then. I have pulled it off my shelf over the years and moved it about my house. Today when I was moved to open it I was shocked at how much it had deteriated.
I am a collector of many things one of which is Bibles. Yes this is an antique Bible. I took a few pictures from its pages before it can no longer be open. Even if you are not a believer I encourage every single person to read a Bible of your choice. Within its pages are stories of not just God and his son Jesus but also great historical events. The Bible is a history book and one that as of yet cannot be disputed. Here are the unique things about this particular Bible:
This was found just inside the book. This was written by the receiver of the book which gives you a clue as to its age.Because of its age all of the pictures are black and white and very detailed. This shows the actual date of 1844. Yes it is 177 years old.
While this book never belonged in my family I have tried at times to locate any descendent of the family without success. I am a lover of antiques but more importantly I am a lover of the Bible.
